We are extremely happy: we have received an organic label! From autumn 2024, our products will have a Skal-certified BIO quality mark. But what exactly does this mean? Read on quickly!

The EU BIO label

Blossombs has received the European BIO label from Skal. Skal is the official, independent organisation that monitors and examines companies. In Skal's words, "Organic companies produce a wide variety of high-quality (...) products. These meet consumer demand for food produced by processes that do not harm the environment, human health or plant health. There is a high level of animal welfare, taking into account species-specific needs of animals."

What does this mean for Blossombs?

Our bombs were always almost organic, but it took a while before we could be certified. In fact, there was no (test) category for a seed bomb at European level at all! Thus, certification was not possible and so a new category had to be created for Blossombs before we could really be 'tested'. Not much has changed about our Blossombs, but at least now you can be sure that everything in and around a Blossomb is deliciously organic. For example, many ingredients in a Blossomb come from organic farming and the seeds are nourished by plant and organic plant food. The packaging of a Blossomb is also important for the organic label. Thus:

  • do you see the flag of BIO label itself on the packaging;
  • do you see the code number of the inspection body;
  • do our packages have a traceability code, so that information on all ingredients can be found;
  • do the packages clearly show the product name;
  • do our packages show the list of ingredients, with the origin of agricultural raw materials and which ingredients are organic;
  • are the packages printed with our address.

If you see a Blossombs gift in shop soon, you will recognise the BIO seal by the green flag on the back.

what does this mean for the earth?

Organic products, we hope, bring a little smile to the earth. The impact an organic product has on the earth is not there, or rather positive. With Blossombs, for instance, you make sure the earth becomes a more beautiful, colourful place. A place full of wildflowers and where biodiversity can flourish. By using ingredients of organic origin, we ensure that no chemicals and pesticides end up on the earth. This is not only nice for the earth, but also for all the little (and big) critters that live here. Because our packaging is made of FSC certified paper, recycled cardboard and paper with a golden cradle to cradle certificate, we also know for sure that the forests where our paper comes from look good. By the way, did you know that, among other things, all our cards are made of Lessebo paper? This company, unlike many other paper products, has a positive CO2 contribution.

Our mission

We try to add a little extra colour to the world every day. Mainly in the form of wild flowers, but also in other aspects of our business. For instance, we work together with social workshops, our Blossombs are made in the Netherlands and our flower mix is specially composed for bees and butterflies. With our product, we try to spread as many wild flowers as possible. This is because every wild flower not only provides food, but also has many other benefits. For instance, after their flowering period, many flowers serve as protection for anything that flies or crawls. Flowers also make the soil healthier. In our story, you can read how we ended up here.
